The Best Part of Wellen Park Isn't the Homes...
Step Into the Wellen Park Lifestyle: 40+ Miles of Trails Right Outside Your Door
If you want to understand what life in Wellen Park is really like, don't start with the floor plans. Start with the trails.
Every morning here, the paths fill up with joggers, cyclists, dog walkers, and neighbors catching up over a sunrise stroll. It's one of the first things people notice when they visit — and one of the things residents tell me they love most about living here. Wellen Park was designed around the idea that getting outside shouldn't require a plan. It should just be part of your day.
And now, with the community's newest trail additions officially open, there's more to explore than ever.
A Trail Network That Keeps Growing
Wellen Park's trail system now connects more than 40 miles of pathways winding through lakes, preserves, wetlands, and neighborhoods. Some routes are wide and open, perfect for biking or a brisk run. Others are quiet shell paths and boardwalks tucked into natural Florida scenery, where you're more likely to see herons and turtles than another person.
Here are the standouts:
Grand Lake Loop — The Heart of It All
Circling Downtown Wellen, the Grand Lake Loop is about 3.5 miles of lakefront views, and it might be the most social stretch of pavement in Venice. This is where a morning walk turns into coffee with a neighbor, or an evening lap ends with dinner at one of the downtown restaurants. Between the fishing pier at The Landing, the kayak launch, and the splash pad and playground for the kids, it's less of a trail and more of a front porch for the whole community.
Oakheart Nature Trail — New for 2026
The newly completed Oakheart Trail offers more than three miles of natural-surface paths, shell walkways, and boardwalks meandering along a 50-acre lake, wetlands, and preserves near the Everly and Lakespur neighborhoods. It features a lakeside fishing pier, and the trailhead off Playmore Road includes restrooms plus vehicle and bicycle parking — so it's easy to make a whole morning of it. Down the road, the trail will even connect to a planned school campus, meaning kids will be able to walk or bike to school.
Buttonwood Trail — Nature Next Door
Also new to the network, Buttonwood Trail is a 2.5-mile shell path and boardwalk route through beautiful natural scenery beside the Palmera neighborhood — complete with a gated entry directly from the community. For Palmera residents, a peaceful nature walk literally starts at the neighborhood's edge.
The Greenway and Beyond
Neighborhoods like Oakbend link directly to The Greenway, and a web of interconnecting paths ties the neighborhoods, parks, and Downtown Wellen together. Trailhead signage maps out your route, and mile markers every half mile help you track your distance — whether you're training for a 5K or just counting steps.
More Than Trails — It's a Way of Life
Here's what makes Wellen Park different from communities that simply have sidewalks: the trails here actually take you somewhere.
A bike ride can end at the Sunday farmers market. An evening walk around Grand Lake can roll right into a Friday Night Live concert on the Solis Hall stage. You can rent a kayak or paddleboard from the downtown outfitter, cast a line off the pier, or grab a bite at The Yard's courtyard of local vendors — all without ever getting in your car. And with Downtown Wellen's next phase of shops and restaurants opening through 2026, the list of destinations keeps growing.
That's the real story of the trail system. It isn't just about fitness (though you'll find plenty of that here). It's about connection — to nature, to your neighbors, and to a downtown that feels like the community's living room.
Thinking About Making Wellen Park Home?
